This autumn term, CHS South students proudly showcased the power of inclusivity through sport by participating in three inspiring events as part of the Manchester School Games. These events highlighted the importance of making physical activity accessible for everyone, regardless of ability.
The Cross-Country Inclusion Event set the tone for an exciting season, with students embracing the challenge and celebrating their successes. The morning saw CHS South earn an impressive 3 silver and 2 bronze medals, a testament to the students’ determination and teamwork.
Next came the Kurling Inclusion Event, where Year 9 students enjoyed a thrilling experience. Adapted from traditional curling, Kurling involves sliding coloured discs towards a target, emphasising precision and coordination. This accessible and engaging activity fostered collaboration and a sense of achievement among all participants.
The term concluded with the Boccia Inclusion Event, a Paralympic sport similar to bowls. Boccia encourages players of all abilities, including those with physical disabilities, to aim for a white target ball, the “jack.” Our students excelled in strategy, focus, and teamwork, making the event a memorable experience. The game provided a platform for developing key skills such as communication, patience, and hand-eye coordination while celebrating the joy of inclusion and collaboration.
These events embodied the values of inclusion, teamwork, and perseverance. They were not just about competition but about celebrating everyone’s unique strengths and fostering a sense of belonging. Both students and staff returned from the events inspired and united, proving that sport has the power to bring everyone together.
