Assessment and Reporting

At CHS South, in line with Department for Education (DfE) guidelines, we are committed to effectively monitoring and supporting student progress. Our assessments are designed to ensure students understand the curriculum and are well-prepared for future challenges. When we report to parents and carers, we include not only academic achievements but also key insights into each student's effort and attitude towards learning. This comprehensive approach helps us to identify areas where students may need extra support and allows us to celebrate their successes, promoting a positive and encouraging learning environment.

We have adopted a new approach to assessing student progress at Key Stage 3 (KS3). Our aim is to provide a more comprehensive understanding of each student's development by focusing on two key areas:

  • Measuring how well students have mastered the curriculum, ensuring they have a solid foundation of knowledge that will support their success in the next stage of their education.

  • Evaluating their attitude, approach, and learning habits through our CHS South Effort grade, which helps us to nurture confident, independent learners.
