We are delighted to announce that we, CHS South, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year. This significant award marks our sixth consecutive year of attaining the gold standard, reflecting our continued commitment to developing a vibrant sporting culture within our school community.
The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust. It rewards schools for their dedication to the development of competition across the school and into the community. We are thrilled to have been recognised once again for our ongoing success in promoting sports and physical education.
Our sporting achievements this past year have been outstanding, including:
- Participation in Various Sports Tournaments: Our students competed in a range of local and regional tournaments, highlighting their talents in football, netball, athletics, and more.
- Success in Athletics: Our athletics team performed exceptionally well, securing multiple medals in the city-wide athletics meet.
- Rising Stars in Football: Our U15 football team won the district championship, demonstrating teamwork and skill on the field.
- Expansion of Extra-Curricular Sports Clubs: We introduced new clubs, including rugby and gymnastics, increasing student participation in physical activities.
- With over 400 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport. This includes the young volunteers, leaders, and officials whose efforts have made these competitions possible. Their commitment to sport not only enhances their physical abilities but also builds essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and resilience.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce, and clubs. We are pleased that the challenging work of everyone at our school (students, teachers, and parents/carers) has been rewarded once again this year.
A special thanks to:
- Our PE Department: For their unwavering support and dedication in coaching and organising various events.
- Parent Volunteers: For their time and enthusiasm in supporting our teams during competitions.
- Student Sports Leaders: For their excellent leadership in organising and officiating sports events.
- Local Sports Partnerships: For their continued collaboration and support in providing opportunities for our students to compete and develop their skills.
We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together as a community and look forward to another year of sporting excellence. We eagerly anticipate applying for the School Games Mark again for 2024/2025, aiming for even greater heights!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our success this year.
Go, CHS South!
