As always, I hope I find you and your family members healthy and safe. Below is my final update for this half term:
To celebrate the amazing efforts of our students (and yourselves!) we have posted our usual end of half term Champions Assembly on the Happy page of the school website; you can view it by following the link here: https://www.chssouth.org.uk/chs-distance-learning/happy.
We have seen some wonderful work from our students and want to thank you for your efforts supporting them to navigate their learning. Keeping your child in a regular educational routine that works for you and your family whilst they are away from school will have a huge impact on your child’s wellbeing, future success, and ability to smoothly transition back to school when the time comes.
As you are doubtless aware, there has been a lot of talk about the phased reopening of schools over the past week. There are currently no plans to reopen schools to Year 7 & 8 students unless they are accessing the provision for the children of Key Workers. Our provision for the children of Key Workers remains at Chorlton High School and is open for qualifying students over the half term break as well as in term time; if you wish to access it for your child, please contact us on [email protected].
Our Trust is involved in talks with staff, Governors, the Local Authority & Union representatives about the implications of the proposals outlined by the Government to date and how we can plan to return our children and staff to school in a way that is safe for all concerned. The safety of all members of the CHS South family remains our priority and will be central to any discussions; when we have more information regarding any plans to reopen CHS South, we will share them with you. For the time being we will continue to issue all work via your child’s Office 365 account on Teams, supported by additional materials and messages on our social media accounts. If you are struggling to access IT at home please let us know via [email protected] and we will provide you with refreshed paper work packs.
Development of our temporary site will begin in a few weeks, seeing the conversion of the 3rd floor into a suite of new classrooms as well as the extension of our current recreation and dining facilities in readiness for the Autumn term. Work also continues apace at the permanent school site at Hough End. The construction team have worked exceptionally hard to ensure they have observed safe social distancing guidelines whilst continuing to progress the build, and we remain on track with the current construction plan. BAM’s latest construction update for residents can be found here: https://www.chssouth.org.uk/news/2020-05-15-new-building-construction-update-may-2020.
New Students & Staff
We have also been working hard to ensure new students and staff members joining us in September will feel at home at CHS South. Our Transition Team have been contacting staff in Primary Schools to find out more about our new cohort and we will be sharing plans after half term for an exciting virtual transition project running in conjunction with Chorlton High School. We have also been busy recruiting new staff for September via a series virtual lessons, tasks and interviews! The CHS South team will be extended by 14 teachers and 9 support staff in September and we can’t wait to welcome them. Current staff and students will be working with them over the summer term to offer a virtual introduction to the CHS South way of life!
Thank you as always for your unswerving support over the past half term. I hope you have a peaceful and safe half term break and we will be in touch again at the start of the second half of the summer term.
