Taylor Everett Jones, Freestyle Wrestling Champion.
Since starting his high school life at CHS South, Taylor has been described by staff as having a hardworking, quiet and friendly personality. Having seen his impressive athletic talent demonstrated during school rugby and P.E lessons, we all knew that Taylor had been no stranger to strict training regimes.
Taylor has been doing freestyle Olympic wrestling since age 8, training 3 times a week at Manchester Y-Club and Aspull Wrestling Club, as well as undertaking other conditioning training sessions.
In 2016, Taylor made an impressive step into the competitive world of Freestyle Wrestling in his first competition where he was placed 3rd! Since then, Taylor has competed all over the UK, including the Irish Open Wrestling Championships which took place in Dublin, December 2017. Taylor achieved first place here in his weight and age category, which was exceptional! He even entered the higher age group for 13 to 15yrs and won gold, making him double Irish champion 2017. Not satisfied with just these accolades, he went on to be awarded Wrestler of the Tournament due to his outstanding performance on the mat; Taylor will defend his Championship titles in Dublin at the end of October 2018.
Due to Taylor's great success in the sport, he is one of just 40 wrestlers selected to train on the Northern Regional squad which gives him the opportunity to be trained by some great names in the sport; Charlie Bowling - current Commonwealth Games Bronze medalist and Phillip Roberts - two times Commonwealth Games member.
Taylor is aiming for the title of British Champion this year. He came very close last year, losing out on just one point. The British Championships Competition takes place in Peterborough in November 2018.
Taylor is a great inspiration to his younger brother 9 and sister aged 5 who also compete. They will all be competing in the Derbyshire Open this weekend in Matlock which is always a very tough competition with competitors travelling from all over the UK as well as Malta, Holland and Germany.
Team CHS South wish Taylor the very best of luck in his future competitions. Your dedication and commitment to training is infectious and we have all been so impressed with your calm and caring nature in school.
