At CHS South we believe that reading is a fundamental part of every child's education.
All students are supported to develop the skills to be successful readers. All children read twice a week in Form Time and regularly encounter CHS South reading and vocabulary strategies as part of their day to day learning. We provide additional tuition and support for those students who need it and regularly provide opportunities for students to develop a love of reading in school and their day to day lives. Our library provides students with access to a range of texts and support to navigate their learning, and all students have access to our online library, which you can find out more about below!

Free stories for kids of all ages. Audible stories is a free website where young people can listen to hundreds of Audible audio titles across six different languages - English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Japanese - for free, so they can keep learning & dreaming.
Every child in school has been gifted a free reading book. Year 7 have ‘The Goldfish Boy’ by Lisa Thompson, and Year 8 have ‘The Giver’ by Lois Lowry.
We have chosen to provide these books for our students to support them to continue to develop their reading skills outside of school, to provide a shared experience that we may be able to connect with over our digital learning platforms, and to provide some escapism from the world around them.
Please take the time to read these novels with your child where you are able to, and if you race through them please consider ordering from the recommended lists below!
